What Is Blackjack and Why Is It So Popular?

Blackjack, sometimes called "21", is a card game where your main objective is to get a hand value higher than the dealer's without going over 21. Easy to pick up, yet packed with strategy that can significantly improve your chances of winning.

At 888casino, we offer over 50 blackjack table variants — from low-stakes tables for beginners to high-limit VIP tables favored by seasoned players. All tables use certified random number generators (RNG), and live dealer tables feature real cards dealt by human dealers in real time.

Among the reasons many Malaysian players choose blackjack at 888casino because the theoretical RTP (Return to Player) can reach up to 99.5% when basic strategy is applied correctly. This means the house edge is extremely low compared to other games like slots or roulette — making blackjack one of the most rewarding games for skilled players.

How to Play Blackjack at 888casino – Step by Step

Just starting out? No worries. Blackjack is actually very easy to learn. Follow these steps and you'll be ready to play in just a few minutes.

Card Values

2 through 10 = face value
J, Q, K = value of 10
Ace = 1 or 11 (player's choice)

Choose a Table & Place Your Bet

Log in to 888casino, go to the Blackjack section, and choose a table that suits your budget. Set your bet amount — minimum RM1 at standard tables. Click "Deal" to start the game.

Receive Your Cards

You and the dealer each receive two cards. Your cards are fully face-up, while one of the dealer's cards remains hidden (the hole card). Add up your card values and decide on your next move.

Choose Your Action

Hit – Draw an additional card. Stand – Keep your current hand. Double Down – Double your bet and receive one more card. Split – Split a matching pair into two separate hands.

View Results & Collect Winnings

Once you're done, the dealer reveals their hole card and plays according to house rules (typically, the dealer must Hit on 16 or below and Stand on 17 or above). If your hand is worth more than the dealer's without exceeding 21, you win! A natural Blackjack (Ace + 10/J/Q/K) pays 3:2.

Basic Blackjack Strategy – Reference Chart

Basic blackjack strategy helps you make the best decisions based on your hand value versus the dealer's upcard. It is the foundation used by all professional players.

Your Hand Value	Dealer's Card: 2–6	Dealer Card: 7–9	Dealer's Card: 10 / Ace
8 or under	Hit	Hit	Hit
9	Double Down	Hit	Hit
10 – 11	Double Down	Double Down	Hit
12 – 16	Stand	Hit	Hit
17 – 21	Stand	Stand	Stand
A Pair of Aces or 8s	Split	Split	Split
A Pair of 10 / J / Q / K	Stand	Stand	Stand

This table is a general guide. Strategy may vary slightly depending on the number of decks and specific table rules at 888casino.

Tips & Tricks to Win at Blackjack on 888casino

1. Master Basic Strategy First

Before trying advanced techniques like card counting, make sure you have basic blackjack strategy down cold. Applying correct basic strategy can bring the house edge below 0.5%.

2. Don't Take Insurance Indiscriminately

Insurance is offered when the dealer's face-up card is an Ace. Statistically, insurance gives the house a 6–8% edge. Unless you're counting cards, avoid this bet.

3. Set Win and Loss Limits

Before you sit down at a table, decide how much you're willing to lose and how much you're aiming to win. Once either limit is reached, walk away. This keeps your bankroll management sharp and disciplined.

4. Make the Most of 888casino Bonuses

888casino offers a range of bonuses you can use when playing blackjack. Always check the bonus wagering terms before using them so you can get the most value out of every offer.

5. Choose Tables with Favourable Rules

Look for tables that pay Blackjack at 3:2 (not 6:5), allow Double Down on any two cards, and have the dealer Stand on Soft 17. All premium tables at 888casino follow player-friendly rules.

FAQ – Blackjack at 888casino

The most frequently asked questions from Malaysian blackjack players.

RNG (Random Number Generator) Blackjack uses computer software to determine card outcomes randomly. It is faster, ideal for practice, and available in free demo mode. Live Blackjack, on the other hand, features a real human dealer operating from a casino studio, streaming the game live in HD. Live Blackjack offers a more immersive and interactive experience, but requires a stable internet connection.

The minimum deposit at 888casino is RM30. However, the minimum bet at blackjack tables starts as low as RM1 for standard tables. You can fund your account via Touch 'n Go eWallet, GrabPay, Boost, ShopeePay, DuitNow, or FPX through banks such as Maybank2u and CIMB Clicks. Deposits are typically processed within seconds.

Card counting as a personal mental exercise is not illegal. That said, 888casino's blackjack tables use a continuous shuffling mechanism, which makes card counting far less effective. Your time is better spent mastering basic blackjack strategy — a proven approach that can reduce the house edge to its absolute minimum.

Yes, the 888casino welcome bonus can be used to play Blackjack, including Live Blackjack tables. However, please check the applicable bonus wagering requirements, as different games may contribute at different rates. Generally, blackjack contributes 10%–20% toward the bonus wagering requirement.
